Keine Turbomotoren mehr in der Rallycross-WM? Ob das der richtige Weg ist?

Die Rallycross-Weltmeisterschaft hat in den letzten Jahren geboomt wie nie zuvor. Die Hersteller haben die Meisterschaft nach und nach Entdeckt und mit Petter Solberg, Sebastien Loeb, Matthias Ekström und Co sind jede Menge erfolgreiche Piloten am Start.

Doch auch wegen der 600 PS starken Rallycross Supercars ist die Serie so beliebt. Wenn sechs von diesen Monstern gleichzeitig auf die erste Kurve zuschießen, ist Action garantiert. Eine Rallycross-Serie mit Elektroautos ist schon seit einiger Zeit im Gespräch und es ist nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis diese Wirklichkeit wird.

Was Fans wie uns allerdings momentan einen kalten Schauer über den Rücken jagt, ist folgender Facebook-Post vom Team MJP Racing, welches 2018 ein eigens entwickeltes Ford Fiesta Supercar in der WM einsetzt.

At this event also the plans for RXE or electric Rallycross were presented under non-disclosure so I can't tell you what we were told. One aspect however I had heard weeks before so it was already public. In 2020 or latest 2021 RXE will REPLACE the current WRX Supercar World Championship. Only EuroRX Supercars will remain and the question is for how long. This is not about electric or the lack of noise but how manufacturer influence and IMG strategy will change Rallycross. I see the probability that it will end the production of world class Supercars. Maybe some find the manufacturing of standardised carbon chassis for RXE exciting but it does not do anything for Rallycross and puts the participation of private teams seriously in question. Sure, the world moves on and obviously there is a lot of pressure from manufacturers and environmentalists so FIA and IMG submit to that. On a sideline IMG tries to gain influence in American Rallycross which creates a lot of uncertainty. I have been a fervent supporter of WRX since day one and now I wonder if I am right. Also the way fans consume Rallycross is changing and kills existing sponsorship models that private teams were depending on. IMG sees no reason to take that into account in their plans and focuses on turning WRX in a county fair with a little electric racing. Not many true RX fans might go there. You might say there aren't enough RX fans, but I say there are enough motorsport fans, just look at MotoGP. It could be the beginning of the end of the age of current RX Supercars down to the national level most likely reducing the sparse spectator crowds further unless we do something about it. Or is RX no longer sustainable? Is electric the only way RX can survive? How would we create the future of TRUE Rallycross outside WRX?

In Kürze zusammengefasst schreiben die Österreicher, dass ab 2020 oder 2021 komplett elektrische Autos die derzeitigen Fahrzeuge ersetzen könnten! Dies wissen sie bereits seit ein paar Wochen und erfuhren nun noch mehr Details auf einem Meeting des Promotors IMG. Wie so ein rein elektrisches Rallycross Supercar aussehen könnte, hat STARD bereits gezeigt.

So klingt die Zukunft des Elektro-Rallycross

Dass die FIA bald eine RXE ausschreiben würde war klar, denn die Hersteller haben großes Interesse an der Vermarktung von Elektroautos. Außerdem bieten sich die kurzen Sprintrennen für den derzeitigen Stand der Akku-Technik geradezu an. Dass diese Autos allerdings die Supercars mit Verbrenner verdrängen sollen, ist neu.
An sich ist elektrisches Rallycross ja keine komplett schlechte Sache. Die Beliebtheit der Rallycross-WM würde aber bestimmt einen kräftigen Dämpfer verpasst bekommen, wenn die Supercars, so wie wir sie kennen, komplett verdrängt werden. Mal schauen, wie sich die ganze Sache noch entwickelt, aber gute Anzeichen für die Zukunft sind das nicht unbedingt.
